Jen’s in Shape!

Jennifer Aniston cheerfully waves at fans as she appears on the Daily Show in NYC, NY on August 19, 2010 to promote her newest movie The Switch . Fame Pictures, Inc

Well, we knew that, but what I meant is that Jen recently talked to Shape magazine about her beauty secrets – and a few of her favorite things.

Regarding her favorite healthy snack – and not-so-healthy (but delicious!) snack:

Do you have a favorite healthy snack?
“I love white peaches, when they’re in season, with a piece of string cheese,” Jennifer Aniston says. “And my not-so-healthy snack is chips and guacamole with a margarita. I’m so predictable, aren’t I?”

And how she burns it off:

You’re famous for loving yoga. Why are you such a fan?
“Oh gosh, I noticed dramatic changes in my body after I started doing yoga, but I also think you have to shake things up,” says Aniston. “I have a Spin bike, an elliptical, and a treadmill, and I do cardio for at least 20 minutes a day. Even that short burst makes a difference.”

What’s your favorite workout music?
“I listen to Lady Gaga’s ‘Paparazzi’ and ‘Just Dance’ when I Spin, and the band 1 Giant Leap during yoga,” Jennifer Aniston says.

Finally, even though to look at her you’d never guess that she’s 41, here’s what Jen says has changed lately:

You turned 41 this year. What’s different about your body now?
“I’m sprouting more than one wonderful grey hair. My colorist gets creative with what I call my natural highlights!” Jennifer Aniston says. “I’ve always worn glasses for distance, but right when I turned 40, I was reading something and actually had to pull it away from my eyes and get my prescription changed.”

Update on Cougar Town

082710-1

According to writer Kevin Biegel’s Twitter feed, Jen filmed her Cougar Town episode late last week (and of course, everyone’s got a crush on our girl):

Jennifer was shooting scenes outside my office window as me and a few writers worked. Never have more nerds done less. 9:01 PM Aug 26th via Echofon

Janiston gave me the nickname “Kegs”. I approve! 12:01 AM Aug 28th via Echofon

Be sure to tune in on September 22nd! And meanwhile, here’s Jen looking lovely in LA on Thursday.

Who’s that costar?

Modern Family star Sarah Hyland hit the Emmy red carpet last night, and in discussing her style with reporters, said some nice things about Jen (Contra Costa Times

):

“I knew I would either go with a sexy Jennifer Aniston look or a sexy Angelina Jolie, but I chose this one,” she said of the silver charmeuse gown. “I’m Team Aniston all the way.”

Don’t recognize this beautiful young lady? Well, she looked very different when she and Jen shared the screen. Sarah, now 19, was just six years old when she played the daughter of Jen’s character in The Object of My Affection.

Let’s clear up one little thing . . .

I love difference of opinion. Wouldn’t life be boring if we were all the same? So some (read: many) in the blogosphere have decided that given the modest performance of The Switch at the box office this weekend, the time has come to dissect Jen’s career choices. And while I firmly believe that a woman with the level of success that Jen has had knows far more about the business than I ever will, others do see fit to offer their unsolicited advice, and the fact that I think that it will fall on deaf ears is really neither here nor there.

What has come to irk me is one particular argument that comes up time and again. One based on a glaring factual inaccuracy. Some may simply be mistaken on this, and others may believe that if they say it often enough, or in ALL CAPS, that will eventually make it true. Not so. Not when photographic and video evidence contradicting your statement is readily available to all. One exception may prove the rule, but four (or more) undermines it a bit, wouldn’t you think?

The rule in question?

“Jen doesn’t change her hair for a role. Ever.”

Now, to be fair, she does sometimes use wigs or other temporary means to achieve a different look, but the bottom line is that contrary to this oft-repeated argument, she actually does look quite different in some roles. The following list is not meant to be exhaustive – rather, just a handful of the different looks she’s sported in character.

derailed

Derailed This one’s the real deal. For her role as the sexy, mysterious Lucinda Harris, Jen dyed her locks quite a bit darker than usual.

Management_aniston

Management Jen wigged out for this one – to look the part for her role as Sue Claussen in Management, Jen wore this short, dark wig.

jennifer-aniston-marley

Marley & Me To play Jenny Grogan in Marley & Me, Jen wore bangs. There’s some debate about this one – even though it’s widely believed that the fringe was just a clip-on hairpiece, Jen’s mane man Chris says it was for real. Hmmmm . . .

Horrible Bosses Jen was recently snapped on the set (pics at X17 Online) looking radically different, with long dark hair and bangs. I’m presuming that’s a wig, since she’s been back to her blonde locks for her recent press tour, but you cannot look at that and say that she always looks the same!

Ok. Rant over. Whew.

Jen’s headed to Cougar Town

060110

It’s been rumored for a while, and now it’s official – Jen’s going to appear on Cougar Town! Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello reveals that Jen’s guest role on her pal’s show has been confirmed by executive producer Bill Lawrence:

“She’s going to play Courteney’s shrink named Bonnie,” reveals Lawrence, referring to Cox’s character, Jules. “Kind of a get-too-involved-in-her-life-type of therapist. Those guys are so close in real life they kind of do that for each other anyway. Bonnie has the life Jules wishes she has.”

Jen will appear on the season premiere on September 22nd – fire up your Tivos!

A not-so-critical perspective on The Switch

I’m just going to say it – The Switch, which hits theaters today, is one of Jen’s best movies. Ever. The flick, directed by Josh Gordon and Will Speck, is, very simply, a gem, not only tickling the funny bone, but tugging on the heartstrings with a premise that resonates with anyone. Really. Artificial insemination may be at the core of this particular story, but the friendship between Jen’s Kassie and Jason Bateman’s Wally is something that so many of us have experienced with that one friend – the banter, the heartbreak, and everything in between. The two leads are longtime friends in real life, and that familiarity is apparent in their easy chemistry – and the more difficult moments that they play with all of the sensitivity and subtlety that the material warrants.

Of course, Kassie’s son Sebastian is at the center of the story, and the boy, played by newcomer Thomas Robinson, will turn any viewer to mush. The character is meant to be pessimistic and antisocial – but Robinson manages to make even those traits endearing. I see big things for this talented young man. And Jeff Goldblum and Juliette Lewis turn in entertaining performances as pals of the leads – often well-meaning, but at least as clueless as Wally and Kassie themselves! Family matters are often messier than the aftermath of an insemination party, and The Switch offers a refreshing take on what exactly constitutes family. And I’m not about to give away the biggest laughs in this one – but you will laugh. Hard. Go see it, and you’ll see what I mean.

Our girl is busy! Following morning stops at Good Morning America and Live with Regis and Kelly, Jen wrapped up her day yesterday with an appearance on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Video can be seen at The Daily Show’s website. Jen showed off her fabulous style on her way in – she was snapped sporting a beautiful tweed Dolce and Gabbana dress, with a perky ponytail completing the look. I’m sure you all have your plans in place by now to go see The Switch – check back later today for my review! More pics from The Daily Show below.

In a blue dress (but not a blue mood), Jen showed up this morning for an appearance on Good Morning America. She greeted her fans outside, and then inside, she chatted with George Stephanopoulos about The Switch, her response to Bill O’Reilly, and Greek family ties – turns out that Will Speck, one of the directors of The Switch, was an altar boy with George! Video here, and another video here, where Jen answers viewer questions. More pics of Jen’s stunning arrival below.

There she is! Jen looked stunning last night at the premiere of The Switch – she showed off her simple style and fab figure in a two-tone Lanvin minidress. She was joined by costars Jason Bateman, Juliette Lewis, Patrick Wilson, and Thomas Robinson – more pics below! Also, check out this red carpet interview with Entertainment Tonight’s Samantha Harris. I love Jen’s response about Bill O’Reilly – she seems pleased with herself, as well she should be!

O’Reilly, don’t preach

Let this be a lesson to hypocrites the world over – when you turn your idiocy on Jen, brace yourselves for a knockout punch. On her recent press junket for The Switch, Jen had this to say about her character’s route to motherhood:

“Women are realizing it more and more knowing that they don’t have to settle with a man just to have that child. Times have changed and that is also what is amazing is that we do have so many options these days, as opposed to our parents’ days when you can’t have children because you have waited too long.”

“The point of the movie is what is it that defines family? It isn’t necessarily the traditional mother, father, two children and a dog named Spot. Love is love and family is what is around you and who is in your immediate sphere. That is what I love about this movie. It is saying it is not the traditional sort of stereotype of what we have been taught as a society of what family is.”

Well, conservative pundit Bill O’Reilly couldn’t leave that one alone. I could go on regarding the ways in which he’s undermined his own family structure, but when it comes to his words, if not his actions, he is a traditionalist. He said on The O’Reilly Factor that Jen’s comments are “destructive to our society” and that comments such as hers will influence youth to make irresponsible decisions about becoming parents. Youth who I’m pretty sure aren’t looking to artificially inseminate themselves anytime this decade, but thanks for the thought.

Last night, Jen fired back. The following statement was submitted to People:

“Of course, the ideal scenario for parenting is obviously two parents of a mature age. Parenting is one of the hardest jobs on earth,” Aniston tells PEOPLE exclusively. “And, of course, many women dream of finding Prince Charming (with fatherly instincts), but for those who’ve not yet found their Bill O’Reilly, I’m just glad science has provided a few other options.”

Need I say more? Well done, Jen!
